bug or feature?

Load this HTML into mozilla (I'm using Mozilla Firebird 0.7 on Win2K)

    <html><head><title>unclosed</head><body>
    <form><input type="text" value="xyz"<br/>
    <input type="submit"/></form>
    </body></html>

Notice there's an error on the second line: the input tag is not closed

Now, right click and "View Page Source". You'll get something
different (better, but that's not the point)!

    <html><head><title>unclosed</head><body>
    <form><input type="text" value="xyz"><br/>
    <input type="submit"/></form>
    </body></html>

Notice mozilla correctly removed the error by closing the input tag

Is this behaviour a bug or a feature? :)

    If this can't be turned off, I say it's a bug;
if it can be turned off, how do I do that?

I would guess its a feature, and attempt to use quirks mode to correct
    an obvious error.

hmmm ... I don't want quirks. I want to see _exactly_ what the server
    sends.

I agree. It would have been better to get some kind of warning instead,
telling the user where the error is. If they can remedy the error so you
don't see its effect, they can tell you where the error is.
