Blown CPU Y/N ?

Discussion in 'A+ Certification' started by The Pilsburys, Feb 16, 2004.

  1. A friend bought me his pc to look at as it wouldnt boot up at all no beeps
    nothing.
I checked the usuals PSU,Switch/ mobo headers, video card, RAM and CPU..
I noticed that the CPU's die was a slight bluish tinge in colour, would this
    indicate that it had blown.
There was a thermal pad between CPU and HS but to be honest before I removed
the HS it did look like it had been off before. It was too clean for a
start, No build up of dust!!
I dont have a spare CPU to check out...
So what other signs should I look for to identify a blown CPU.

    Regards

  2. Take off the CPU and look at the pins with a magnifying glass for singing.
Also smell it carefully. A fried CPU
often has a noticeable burn smell for days afterwards.
