Can someone please tell me how to to download binaries so that they make
sense?. All I get is a bunch of keyboard characters. Thanks in advance

Is reading difficult for you ?

The very same question has been asked some two hours ago.
See : 'How does this work' and read the answers.

Oh leave off. "How does this work" is not exactly the most informative
subject line I've ever read. And the post didn't even mention the word
    "binaries"

So. It would be wise if people searched the www and googles archives
first. Then read a bit through the group. If nothing can be found on
the www, archives or in the past day... ask.

Speaking of our favorite newsreader; did you get the hacked version
somebody posted in a.b.warez awhile back? It was mentioned in
n.s.readers. Blue status bar, title bar status info persistent, some
    other nice tweaks.

No. Though I do remember it being mentioned. I really don't need the
persistant info on the title bar. I click if I need the info. Plus I
(my computer) doesn't have the memory for that.

Did you? If so, do you like it?

Yes, I got it. It's a nice improvement, but nothing that changes the
world. What do you mean, "doesn't have the memory"? It takes no more
than usual. Or do you mean running multiple instances?

No. From what I have read over there, it does take more memory.
I've read about it a few times. One instance btw.
If I am d/l more than I few things I use PowerGrab so either way I
didn't see the need for the hacked version. I can hack Xnews if I want
to. I have a nice HEX editor but just too lazy. :)

Step 1. Get a decent binary newsreader and life will get a lot easier.
    I prefer Forte Agent.

I don't notice the memory usage. I have two versions set up. A patched
version with the XP style icons for text groups and the earlier version
that was hacked, apparently, for binaries. It's a matter of convenience.

I used to use WinHEX before I went to XP. It's a very nice editor, but
    not free.

First step is obtain a Newsreader up to the task Agent:
    http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php

You'll still have the same questions but a better newsreader :)

your answers are one of the top ten given at:

    Ah, a clueless newbie.

This is an iternational newsgroup, in which people ask all sorts of
questions, often computer-related. People who reply are not paid to
help others, nor are they under some sort of obligation to do so.

So, it's a good idea to be polite!
Looking for answers given to frequently asked questions is one way of
doing that. Have a look at this:
