Battery problem with a Cannon (PS IS)

    I've put in 4 brand new AA batteries and within a few hours (during
    which the camera remained mostly closed), the "low battery" indicator
    was flashing.
    The camara was not plugged into anything.

    Any idea what the problem may be ?

    What sort of AA batteries?
