What use is this barcode? I assume it's specific to the movie title?
Is there more info in there than that? How is it read? I blacked it
out and the DVD player doesn't seem to care. Thanks in advance for any
    helpful replies.

    Well, then, that's your answer.

They just use it in the factory to make sure they put the right DVD in the box
you buy and take home. It's easier to read than the label... and they have to
keep track of what movie is on the disk to print the right label on, too.
