How has it won any awards if it has only now been released? ;))

Read the subject line dude. (^: It says Award-Winning Operating System
Just Released! not award winning 'version' just released. It is just
like a newspaper that says award winning actress has just released
a new movie. They are not saying the new movie won any awards, but
the actress (in her old version of herself) won them. *smile*

Which is not true. The OS has not just been released.

So it should say "New version of award winning software just released" then,
    shouldn't it?

Using your movie analogy the correct wording would be "award winning
movie just released" which would be just as incorrect in your context
    as the original posting was.
