While looking for another log file, I noticed that the Avast " usntr.log"
    file is 12mb .
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil
    Software\Avast\log
    It goes back for months.
I have it set for 4096 max. and to delete after 30 days.
Anyone else see this on their pc ?
I checked avast support site - nothing there.
For now I'll purge it , but wondering if just a blip here or a bug.

I don't have that path to the log file. Mine is under:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log

Close to yours except you have "Alwil Software" whereas I have "Avast
Software". My unstr.log file is only 3.39 MB in size. Entries within
it only go back 20 days. That's probably because the default log size
is 4096 KB so the older entries have already been deleted. I do NOT
have the "Enable debug logging" option enabled (i.e., it's off).

I use the default of 30 days to delete the old scan log files. Since I
only have 1 log file then apparently the delete of old files is working.
You report that you only have the 1 log file so your setup also appears
to be deleting the old log *files*. The problem with your setup is that
you have older entries in your ONE log file than you expect to be there.
Because your one log file is getting updated, it isn't over the 30-day
expiration. Check its datestamp. When was that file last updated? Was
it over 30 days ago or maybe does it show today's date?

Since the size setting looks like it is not being obeyed, I tried to
toggle that option's state to see if that will kick the program in the
butt to use the specified value. Change 4096 KB to 1024 KB, delete the
log file, and change the setting from 1024 KB back to 4096 KB.

File was 11mb and had dates in there going back months. I was last updated
at boot time today. I thought "old info" would be purged out of the file. I
did go into settings and set max to 1024k then after reboot it's 36k.
I've used Avast for a lot of years and I also have an Avast folder in
    Program Files.
I only even noticed the Alwil folder becasue it came back in a SEARCH for
    other log files.
Not a big deal - just curious.
    Thanks for the feedback
