If upon selecting an option from a drop-down box, I need to use a XML Web
Service that will help redisplay additional information to the user, do I
have to make sure that AutoPostBack is set to true?

You can select the control and in the Properties window, set the
    AutoPostback property to true.

This will postback to the web server, which can then call your web service
    if you like.
