Assigning "assignments" to amateurs (It happens)

    Note the gist of this CNN request. Your "pay" consists of being on
    CNN. This is clearly a case of, "there are way more amateurs with
    cameras and phones and video and they may be in locations were brawls
    break out so why pay a professional crew to "maybe" end up in the
    right place?"

    Only by the *longest possible stretch of the imagination* could that
    be called an "assignment".

    It's just a request for free contributions, and it's something that
    most online news sites seem to do.

    So? They have changed the meaning of the word "Assignment" beyond
    recognition.
