Anybody use Thunderbird (Linux)?

I had to crank up Thunderbird when Pan crashed so I could ask a couple of
questions. Since I use Firebird almost exclusively and really like it, I
decide to give TB a run. I assume that it is still a work in progress
cause it either has a long way to go, or I can't figure out how to use it.

    1. The password manager asks about passwords, but I can't make Thunderbird
use it. Have to log in every time.

    2. Will not maintain connection to newsgroup server. Log in, download
fresh newgroup headers, select one and read it a while, click on another
header and in the meanwhile the connection was dropped and you have to
log in again. Pan sends a Keep Alive packet to maintain connection.
Anybody know how to make TB do the same thing?
