Hello, i´m new to this Voip thing and i need some help to get started!
I want to be able to answer at my work over internet a call to my home
    number!
Let´s imagine that when somebody call´s me at my home number, my home
computer notify my work computer that there is an incoming call at my
house and if i pick up the phone connected to my work computer than
the home computer answers the call.
is it possible? How can i do this? Both of my computer have analog
voice modems and ADSL internet, my work computer have fixed IP and is
running on W2K and my home computer is running WINXP.
Can i do this only by software? Do you recommend any software?
    thanks

I do it with Asterisk (running on Linux at home) and a Cisco ATA-186 box.

I thought Cisco ATA-186 is a stan-alone FXS device that only accepts a
telephone unit to its RJ-11 port.
