Adding printers automatically in XP

Discussion in 'NZ Computing' started by Patrick Dunford, Oct 28, 2004.

  1. Found an article about this in the MSKB but can't qwork it out.

Our users have two printers that I want to add in a script automatically.
They use a custom port monitor which hooks onto a TCP/IP printer to give
status information about the printer and their print job.

MSKB has an article listing how to use a RunDLL32 command to add printers
automatically, but I can't figure out how to use it. We can install the
port monitor software automatically using a ISS script with the
InstallShield package, and we know the name of the port that comes up in
the Add Printer dialog, name of printer, etc etc (e.g. I could specify
all the options in XP's dialog). The INF files are not built into XP so a
    custom install path is required.
