    Greetings,
    I'm experiencing this problem with a Cisco 7204VXR with NPE-400, I/O
Controller with 2 Fast Ethernet (FE0/0 and FE0/1) and 1 board with 2
FastEthernet interfaces (FE2/0 and FE2/1). The board is model PA-2FE-TX and
    is plugged into bus mb2

This router is dedicated to establish BGP sessions with two upstream
provider; the first is connected on interface FE0/1 and the second on
interface FE2/0. The interface FE0/0 is connected to our network.

When connecting a third upstream provider to the second fastethernet
interface of PA-2FE-TX (FE2/1) and trying to do some traffic, the router
crash and reboot itself with this error:

Dec 21 10:27:31.737: %SYS-3-OVERRUN: Block overrun at E166A98 (red zone
    7A6E465A)
    Dec 21 10:27:31.737: %SYS-6-BLKINFO: Corrupted redzone blk E166A98, words
    140, alloc 60606320, InUse, dealloc 0, rfcnt 1

    %Software-forced reload
Breakpoint exception, CPU signal 23, PC = 0x60671D80

I tried with a lot of IOS images because I was thinking it was a software
problem, but after tried with 12.2, 12.2T and 12.3 I'm stilli experiencing
    the problem

I also replaced the PA-2FE-TX with a new one, but nothing has changed. The
    router still crash.

Thanks in advance for your help

    Bye
    Davide

  2. Without specifically looking at your error, you should try to power
down, pull out your engine and port adapters. Reseat the memory sticks on
the engine, and firmly push your engine and port adapters back in place then
power back on. How often does the error occur? Have you run this through
    Cisco's output interpreter yet?

  3. Please attach a "show ver" so we can see more detail about the chassis.
    Thanks.

In cisco IOS, all memory is accessable by every process. Every memory
block starts with header and ends with redzone. Redzone is security
mechanism that can "point out" that memory block is corrupted. There's a
process that checks redzones and if it finds unexpected pattern, it
reloads the router with reason "Software-forced crash". This can happen
due to IOS bug or physical fault of memory module.

Have you tried to change memory? Regarding different versions of IOS, it
can be that bug you're hitting is not "discovered" by cisco yet, so
there wouldn't be a fix for it in any image.

I would try to change the memory, and if it happens again, open a TAC
case. They will troubleshoot it further and give you a release with a
    fix.

    Hello Ivan,
I will try to change the memory as suggested. I'll let you know if this
    will resolve the trouble

    Thank you again
