    Hello,

I've been working in helpdesk support assisting people with tier 1
computer problems for over a year. At this point I want to obtain the
MCDST certification. I heard that the Microsoft Press MCDST Self-Paced
Training Kit for both 70-271 and 70-272 are pretty good. I also have a
Transcender CD. However, is this material enough to pass both exams? If
not, could you guys recommend any other training material necessary?

    Regards,
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

I bought the MS Press book and loved them. I was chatting with someone the
other day who had used the Transcenders and was not satisfied with it, and
then tried the MS Press books and aced the exams. Those would be my
recommendations not only for the books, but also because the Readiness
Review Suite software is a great practice exam.

    Good luck!

Hey Jonathan, if you're looking for Training material, you may (or may not)
find it difficult to distinguish between legitimate material and br@indumps.

Check out this list of legitimate sites that I've actually taken the time to
    research.

I just recently passed the 70-271 with a 899(woohoo!) and I found the
Microsoft book was ok. It did present a broad base to build your
studying upon. I found that just by concentrating on the stuff that I
did not know as well I was able to supplement my hard earned experience
from my job. The Microsoft book also had a few surprises, like when I
took the "Measure UP" exams from the accompanying CD I kept
failing(almost up to the day of the exam!!!). I was crushed. It seemed
the more I studied the more I failed. It ends up that after carefull
scrutinization the test software was marking answers that were
completly right incorrect. After regrading my practice tests by hand,
which sucked, I had passed all but the first. So did the thought that I
was failing make me learn harder?

For example, say the test asked a question where answer A was correct.
It would grade it incorrect and in the explanation below the answer it
would SAY that Answer A is correct becuase..... Fustrating enough to
make you smash the keyboard when I discovered that the whole time I was
    actually passing.

I just recieved the next book(70-272) in the mail from Amazon.com and
am already into chapter 4. I will pay more attention this time to the
grading scale, and will not get caught unaware if it is wrong this
time. I highly recommend buying "new" but surplus books from Amazon.com
since it saved me like $30 per book so far, and it is still new. Just a
slight imperfection in the cover... darn. I also went ahead and created
a "Wish List" so my relatives and friends can buy all my upcomming MCSE
books for the holidays....God bless donations!

When I thought I was failing the practice exams, I would search for the
subject on Microsoft's Technet web site and read ANYTHING that I could
get my hands on. Many of the articles I would print to PDF for future
re-reading(and save a tree). Using this method I was able to pass
without buying anything other than the Microsoft Book.

    Good luck!
