First Impressions

When you see a power supply, its all about the first impressions of it. That’s because anyone who buying a power supply is buying it for looks, performance or cost.

After seeing the GameXStream for the first time, its one of those products you know that’s going to be good, no matter what anyone says to you. And when you go to test it you get that exhilarating feeling of power. Of course you are now a proud geek with a flashy power supply. But its not just a black box with lights, it’s a ferocious beast with four 12volt rails and a 3 year warranty and a large glowing blue 120mm ball bearing fan.

But its not just about the box, its about the insides. Not knowing the real power of the unit I did a small amount of research for you on the ATX 2.2 Spec. in which it is specified under.

An ATX 2.2 power supply is to be designed with a 12volt rail current greater or equal to 18A, which is approximately 216 watts, per rail. The power supply is also required to have a minimum efficiency of 70% at Full Load, and 72% at ~50%. The following table is that of Output Voltages for a ATX 2.2 Specification power supply unit.

OutputRangeMin.Nom.Max.Units
+12VDC±5%+11.40+12.00+12.60Volts
+5VDC±5%+4.75+5.00+5.25Volts
+3.3VDC±5%+3.14+3.30+3.47Volts
-12VDC±10%-10.80-12.00-13.20Volts
+5VSB±5%+4.75+5.00+5.25Volts

All the Above Data on ATX 2.2 Specification can be found at http://www.formfactors.org

Before I compared the power supply with others I took price into consideration, and the power output and efficiency of the units into play and from that I compared them. Although comparing them has nothing to do with the output voltage/performance or the stability of the power supply.
