Extension for sidebar Instant Messenger?

Is there an extension that will have your Instant Messenger(s) (AOL,
MSN, Yahoo, etc.) to be seamlessly part of the browser's sidebar?

So you could be browsing the web and when someone IMs you, instead of
a pop up window, your sidebar opens with your buddy's message, where
you could also see which of your other IM friends are currently
online, where you can conveniently manage all of your open IMs,
(instead of having a whole bunch of open windows).

Is there such an extension that either currently exists or is in the
works? If not, how can I go about making that part of the wish list
for a future release?
