Do I have to repeat everything in every paragraph? We're talking
specifically about scanner drivers.

So you say, but that's not what the pros using these things
professionally that I've heard say.

Now, what you're skipping over is that it can be hacked to work on
Windows (it's an install problem, no actual problem with working),
whereas nobody that I know of has managed to do that for the mac
version.

Yes, not supported. But works.

I hear the Mac version wasn't nearly as good.

Sure, if you want to get a different set of capabilities and hit a new
learning curve.

Well, if you can't get the driver software working to your satisfaction,
I could probably offer you a couple of hundred for it.

(Seriously, if you're not going to get it going yourself, it's worht
several thousand on ebay.)

and if you read what i wrote, i said that windows users have similar
problems. see where i wrote 'their driver woes too' ?

no matter what product or platform you pick, there is going to be a
small percentage who have problems. nothing is perfect.

seriously, do you think the *only* platform to have scanner driver
problems is a mac?

then they're unaware of how to get it to work. that's why they asked.

the millions of people who don't have problems don't post questions
because it works.

there may be a way to get it to work, but who cares?

there are much better alternatives that work without any hacking
whatsoever and are fully supported on recent mac os x versions.

with hacking, which not everyone will do.

for those who have been using vuescan all along, there is no new set of
capabilities or learning curve.

the fact remains that there *is* mac scanner software for current
versions of mac os x and it works just fine.

you were wrong.

Only? If the spec is actually true it's not that bad. Nikon claimed 4.8
for the LS-9000, but AFAIK that was arrived at arithmetically and it
tested much lower.

I have a good old scanner (Epson Perfection 1240U) but had a lot of hassle getting a driver to work. Eventully I tried Apple's Image Capture (free and built in). It worked a treat so you won't need to install Windoze...
