Html Title event like w/ Java Applet

Hi all...

I am new to java applets and i am trying to do a simple event like
tilte on html that shows a text when the mouse is over something.

I tried <div title="mytitle"><applet ...> </applet></div> but no
success.
It just works outside the applet. It seems the applet tells the
browser to not handle the event. Maybe javascript can help?
Any hints???
