What and when for 5.10?

I have got used to the idea that Perl 6 is still in the distant future. I
thought it was perhaps a year and a half away 3 years ago when I started
using Perl, but this was based on my misunderstanding of its prominence on
the perl.org site.

I have picked up that Perl 5.10 will have some of the Perl 6 features (such
as //=), but I have not found a list of what will be in 5.10 or a roadmap
giving and idea of when it might be ready. Does either exist?

Try ble{e,a}dperl and see what is in it. One feature I remember having
seen (but I have not had any chance to play with in quite a lot of
time) is lexical $_.
