Open in Tab & Offline reading

I'm just adapting to the ways of Firefox/Thunderbird and am having
trouble with a couple of topics.

One is I have Firefox set with an extension, Single Window, that opens
links from external programs in a new tab rather than an new window, but
is there a way to set a default to open internal links in a new tab. At
present the only options I can find are to open a new window or
overwrite the current window.

On Thunderbird I have yet to succeed in saving newsgroup messages for
off-line reading. I've got all the accounts marked for off-line but all
the folders are blank.

Thanks

Tony
