Shouldn't you be doing this

lbtnGetCompany.Attributes.Add("OnClick", "javascript: return
showPleaseWait();");

I can tried that already which is why I posted here.

The href="javascript:__doPostPack(..)" of the linkbutton's html output was getting fired first before the onclick event.
