As far as I've discovered, you never actually on the box for any pay TV
service. (Technically you don't own the "free" modem given to you by your
Interent provider either - if you cancel your account they can, but
usually don't, ask for it back.)

I wouldn't get too excited or worried about the new "SkyTV Lite". With
TVNZ's track record, they'll be pulling out after only a few months
anyway. Plus some of Sky TV's channels are notoriously bad at broadcasting
a show that is completely different to what is advertised. :-\

my understanding is you'll buy the terrestrial receiver outright for
$239 and then pay $25 a month for access to Freeview and some Sky
channels as well as having access to a bunch of Sky channels for
another fee on top, and pay per view movies, sports events and ppv TV
series too
