OT - Blueray Burner Question

I would like to add a Blueray burner to my 64 bit machine that I use
for photography.

I thought a Blueray burner, one time and rewriteable type, was good
for 50GB. Now I find that perhaps it is only 25GB. Are the discs all
the same or are there several types.

Thanks
