How to disable adding a new record in DetailView

Hi,

I show detail of a master record in a Details View control. However, for
each master record, I need to allow only one detail record. If detail record
is not there, I want allow adding one. But, if there is one already, I don't
want to allow adding a new one, So, how could I disable New link button when
a record is already present ?
