How to bind an XML datatype column in a SqlDataSource to a formvie

When using a detailview, the contents of the xml datatype column all show up
in the web page display when I use a "select * from tablename" call, but I
can't figure out what syntax to use to bind the entire contents of an XML
datatype column to a formview when the source is a SqlDataSource and NOT and
XmlDataSource. Can anyone help?
