Single Sign On Within a Workgroup

I am developing an ASP.NET (1.1) that will run on a server in a workgroup
and not an NT domain. Is there a way to obtain the user login ID? I really
need for the user to access this app via a link from another web app and to
be identified and authenticated without having a login screen.
