Drop down list with check marks or maybe multi select.

I have a situation where a record will have a field where the person can
select multiple values from the list and am looking for a way to have them
enter it. Is there some way to do something like a drop down list with multi
select (check marks maybe?) I don't know how many there will be so I need a
drop down list or something like that.

I'd rather not have it be a seperate window where they edit the user.
