How to retrieve changes to formatted cell

On a windows forms datagrid I have a databound column with formatting set to
"C" (the problem happens with "N" as well). If I modify a single digit on
the number displayed and I click on another row the changes do not stay.
The only way to make changes is to change the entire value in the cell.
This makes me assume that frmatted cells by design are not editable and I
need to have that feature. Any ideas on how to implement this, some event
where I can parse de value and force it in.

The problem remains, if you have any ideas I would appreciate it. As it is
now I can not use formatting on the cells.
