Problems with editing controls in designer

I've created a couple of sample controls now and I continue to encounter the
same problem. After I get the control on the web form, if I change any of
the properties using the properties window. All this Literal content gets
written to the .aspx page. It usually is the id of the control concatenated
multiple times.

Today I created a composite control. When I edited one of the properties,
it created child controls between the begin and end tags of the parent
controls? I dno't know what is happening...
