The D4 (or D3Xs, who knows?) is currently undergoing field trials and
should be released Q3/2011. However, there is no official
announcement from Nikon and no official release date.

Question: What will it offer that the current D3s or D3x doesn't?
What would people want over those cameras. D3x lower noise? D3s more
pixels? Then you end up with a compromise, like Canon offers.
