Frankly, I don't care if you want to check spells - but that is something
I don't do.

So there is a sub category of "Standard English" (not that it exists apart from
in David Murrays imagination) called "GOOD Standard English."

Indeed - it is highly unusual for someone to write "check spell". It is
usually written as "spell check" - as you have correctly pointed out - if
they're checking spells.

Otherwise people check their spelling of words using either a dictionary
or a spelling checker.
