I'd opt for ripping them to avi and putting numerous
edits on your drive or easily carried on a jump drive.
Besides the huge size benefits you can still retain
great quality and play them on almost any media player.
Many use DVDShrink to remove chapters and/or protection.
That and AutoGK (auto GordianKnot) will free and easily do
the above.
