Figure out what it is that you are doing that you like GG for - surely
it can be achieved in a news reader.

GG is much worse in all of these ways and more:

- the interface doesn't allow the kinds of configurability as a
newsreader - you are hampered in how you sort/thread
- GG doesn't filter spam and other such; many news servers filter spam
for you with such as cleanfeed and spam cancellers
- since GG not only /displays/ the posted spam, but also serves as a
*source* of spam posting, many readers filter out all messages posted
via the GG system, causing your GG messages to become invisible

Just what do you think you are keeping open? And why do you
think you have that ability?

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice they are not.

Maybe it has something to do with services which GG will perform for the
OP, such as emailing the GGer what is going on in a subscribed group or
thread.

The new GG UI will create a thread structure and some more features.

GG is working on motivating people to use the features of the
googlespecific groups, and those features are spilling into the usenet GGs.

Those are features of the GG web application and have nothing to
do with Usenet. Any spillover to Usenet is the toxic waste from
GG.

What you have just done is point out the problem with GG and
those that use it. You have been led to believe that Usenet is
part of Google Groups. In fact Usenet predates GG by decades and
GG specific groups are cancers on the body of Usenet.

Your last paragraph is a very good argument for filtering all GG
posts.
