There is currently a price war on ink. HP and others have long sold
their printers at lowball prices and subsidizing it with ginormous
markup on ink and toner.
All of a sudden, a few other manufacturers have decided to market
their printers directly against HP based on a much lower cost for ink.
HP has to follow them, or else lose market share.
When HP lowers the price of it's ink, it HAS to raise printer prices.
