I have a laptop connected to a cable modem via ethernet router. I tried running a wireless access point off the cable modem, the cable modem into the router and then the router into the computer.
Something isn't working right. Do you think I need a wireless router or should a ethernet router work hooked into a ??wireless network? Any help would be appreciated. sub-t |

If the router isn't already a wireless router, then you need to connect the wireless access point to the router. The setup should be: cable modem >>router>>wap Any computers connecting wired (ethernet) would plug into the router. What you do not want is multiple DHCP servers. So the cable modem first,
then the router (with a DHCP server that will serve all your network with IP address) and then either a Wireless Access point (with no DHCP server or the DHCP Server disabled) or you could get a Router with a built-in Wireless access point. What you do not want is multiple DHCP servers, each DHCP acts as a door and will block parts of the LAN above it from seeing what is under (or behind) it. -- David {MVP} Microsoft Mobile Devices Mobile AntiVirus Researchers Association Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual benefit of all of us...
