I currently have a desktop computer connected to a DSL router and a wireless
linksys router for my laptop. I am running Windows xp on both computers. I ran the network wizard on the desktop and also the wireless wizard on the laptop. Neither computer shows up on the network. What am I doing wrong here. I know it's possible to do this, so could someone please simplify this setup for me so I can get these two computers talking to each other? Thanks. =?Utf-8?B?RG9kZ2Vib3k=?= |

Running the Network Setup Wizard usually does it. The most common cause of the inability for each computer to see each other is a misconfigured firewall. If you are running a third-party firewall, make sure the Windows Firewall has been disabled (the Wizard will enable it) and that the third-party firewall has been configured to allow your lan as trusted. Make sure you create shares on each machine. The description of your setup confused me a little.
You have your desktop hard wired to a DSL Router/Modem? You then have a wireless router connected to the DSL Router/Modem? What models are you using for each piece of equipment? Could you not just use the Wireless router and connect your desktop to that and run it to the DSL modem? Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly about the computer set up. My desktop
is connect to the internet by a DSL modem, which runs to a linksys wireless router that goes to the desktop. I shut down all my firewalls to see if that was causing my computer from seeing the other but that's not the case. When I search for the computer I get a error message that says "MSHome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." Now what???????????????? I'm not that experienced with different type setups for this, but did
you use a domain for your network, because you don't need to? Are all the computers in the network assigned the same workgroup name? I have never used the setup wizard, so I don't know what it does. Both of your computers should be set to DHCP from the Linksys router. They should have addresses in the 192.168.1.X range. Open your Network connections and select the connection and read the details on the bottom left of the screen. Does it give a good address and say "Assigned by DHCP? The website you were given goes through the setups for different configurations, check it for your settings. And make sure the windows firewall, or any other one for that matter, isn't blocking you. Try this or Google for Windows XP networking problems. http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...icbroblems.htm Clark Dodgeboy wrote: > Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly about the computer set up.
