Mastering DDP file sets - DVD vs Versatile Disk?

I am attempting to generate a Disc Description Protocol (DDP) file set
for manufacturing. When I create a optical disc image (DVD) from loose
files and then convert it to a DDP I get a success when analyzing the
data. However if I create a DDP from loose the same loose files
directly onto a versatile disk (hard drive) I get warnings related to
file permissions that are only available to DVDs/Read-Only Media and a
problem with the UDF file system crossing the layers

Is there a way to master a DDP to versatile disk without problems?

Do I need to generate the optical disc image before creating a DDP?
