"90 mph down a dead-end road..." - Bruce Springfield

'bout as good a comment as any on the situation.

And sadly, war or inflation or both are almost always the result!

Inflation is at 2%, how can that be sucking at your savings? You need
better investment advice...

Hell, the US could cut it by $100 billion this year and still be spending
five times as much as the next most defence spendy country, China.

LOL. I'm surprised they didn't have to extend the page a bit to the right
to accommodate the US bar.

Those figures are the 2009 figures. The proposed US defence budget has
been increased to $607 BN.

****ing obscenity to the extremity.

Well, I'd suggest transferring that $100 billion I mentioned from defence
to healthcare. Hey presto! Free healthcare for all in the blink of an eye,
while still maintaining the highest defence budget (by a long shot) on
earth.

Can you just imagine the Republicans being allowed by the people to take
*that* back?

Or maybe *they* didn't. Deliberately.

Just all the little ones the US has indulged in.

Not in the last 65 years, though.

World's policeman translation: imposing foreign policy by force on nations
much less able to defend themselves.

No change whatsoever. You'll still be throwing your weight around in the
world to wrest control of the natural resources of other countries and
build pipelines across them.

I consider the Viet Nam war and the Arab-Israeli conflict as major
wars. One could argue that the Arab-Israeli conflict is an ongoing
extension of WWII.
