Hard to believe he said anything like this
<http://blogs.computerworld.com/15494/windows_netbooks_versus_apple_ipad_victory_goes_to _microsoft>:

During the iPad launch, Jobs claimed that netbooks had failed to create
a category of devices somewhere between smartphones and laptops --- and
then added that the iPad would succeed in that category where netbooks
failed.

I mean, really? The only segment of the PC market to show any growth over
the past year, has “failed to create a category”??

Maybe this is why Apple’s share price fell over 4% when the iPad was
announced.

I agree with SJobs....the early ones like the Eee were ideal, small,
lightweight, but only fairly usable....the next generations just got
bigger and more powerful and more pricey so became pointless IMHO. So
today you pay a premium for the slightly smaller size (than a laptop)
but dont gain its functionality it makes little sense to me. I mean
the same amount of money or more than for a basic laptop except dont
get the functionality...the mac-air was the same, way overpriced, to
big and light on functionality....

Yes notbooks are selling, but I dont see many around town...I see lots
of iphones, I see laptops....

The iPhone is brilliant, its user interface beats anything else ive
seen (its to large and costly for me to consider but for my wife its
ideal) Except, its one weakness is its just a bit too small for
Internet, email use and light weight games around the home or on the
move...ie semi-portable...where laptops and notebooks are too big....

So I think somewhere between the iphone and laptop there is a niche
balance point, has the iPad found it? I dont know, it sure looks good
but over-priced....

regards

Its just a smaller laptop. Same old Windows with all the screen taken up
with menu bars

The tactile interface of the iPhone OS devices, and the app store
software distribution method is a new category, and website designers
and web app programmers such as Google Docs have responded as if its a
new category.

I expect Google's Android version will soon follow.

Microsoft aren't in the game, they have blown it.

Read netbooks have grown it teenage notebooks/laptops so Apple will spin the
Apple to Eve. iPad, a tampon yes? or ay least and elderly persons device.

Getting back to the spin part, read Apple have come in late to the market so
we need to hype up our product.

Yes, but that category seems to have morphed somewhat.

Nine out of ten computers sold in the United States for more than
$US1000 are Macintoshes.

And the US accounts for less than a quarter of the world market, and still
declining.

Which is why, worldwide, Apple can’t even make the top 10 list of PC makers.

I never said they were more popular -- except among people who want a
better computer and are willing to pay for it.

There's quite a lot of those people, but there's more important things
than being popular. Have you had a look at Apple's market capitalisation
lately?
