Distinguish 32bit and 64bit binaries (exe,dll) ?

Hello,

How do I know if binary file I have is compiled for x86-32 or x86-64 ?
For example some file from windows os binaries.

I have visual studio by the way - if tools are needed.

But an other question: WHY do you need to know it? Normally you don't
need to know it...
