I have just completed an uninstall and 2 new installs of Belarc
Advisor. it scans of my computer, but instead of getting the read-out, I end up with an icon/ photo instead of the detailed scan I had been getting. I used my original Belarc program first, then Firefox once, then Internet Explorer once, to download the Belarc 'free' program from their website. I have checked and unchecked the little optional box (it warned that it might mess up) to no avail. I contact their tech support, but they referred me to URLs that don't really cover my issue. How can I accomplish a detailed read-out of my PC's components again? Thanks In Advance, Sylvia M. Sylvia M |

The point of Belarc advisor is to ID hardware you don't have drivers for and have no other source of information on, such as the original packaging and software. If drivers are installed, then device manager - reached by system in control panel - will tell you what it is. Most are generic drivers except for a) video cards b) some monitors c) sound cards and c) various USB cards network and drive controller cards. -- (setq (chuck nil) car(chuck) ) chuckcar |

Here's where Belarc puts the html it writes: Find your Program Files folder in which there is a Belarc. The path is something like C:\(your structure)\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp\ComputerName.html If that isn't happening at all, use something else like SIW or Everest. -- Mike Easter Mike Easter |

Two things here. The windows find command will lie to you, or not show you what your looking for even tho it's in plain sight. Use Agent Ransack http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/ it's free and will show you everything. Also Belarc becomes part of your system, it has no reason to embed itself like it does (it's a spam thing). Use Everest as mentioned above http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181 it's free and does close to what Belarc does; but you don't need to install it. -- Japanese Barcodes http://patriciavalentin.files.wordpr...rcodes-big.jpg Pennywise@DerryMaine.Gov |

And I apologize if I have given 'too much information' below. I'm running a HP XP Media Center 2005, 250 gig with SP3, fully updated. Norton came on it, and I know it's a hog, but I also know that it's a bear to completely remove,so I'll stick with it, It's Symantec 360.. I run Spybot and Ad-Aware monthly. I recently tried to put a Costco photo CD onscreen, and when I went to My Computer, Drives E and F were not shown. E has been my DVD +- writer\CD writer F was my DVD ROM I put in another CD that I've used over the years, and it does not come up in F as it used to. G,H,I and J are showing, and don't see my disc, nor would I expect them to. I wanted to run Belarc...I guess to see what I could see, to see what it could see, to compare with my last readout a year ago. I suspect I may have 'lost the driver/s to E & F, and hoped that Belarc would point me to a source as well. BTW, I didn't get a reinstall disc with my PC, and don't trust the recovery discs that M$ (or HP?) had me burn4 years ago. Thanks to all who have already replied, I'll save your info as possible solutions. Sylvia M. Sylvia M |

See below my 7:42 POST... So I went TO Device Manager, I saw yellow ! s under DVD/CD -ROM Drives, updated, then rolled back each of 3 drives listed. The final results were: "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)" and "Windows could not find a better driver." Meanwhile the slot opens, the light goes on, I can push the little button and the drive slot slides back in. It *knows* it's alive and not disconnected. <sigh> Sylvia M. Sylvia M |

We know that the *power* is connected to the drive, but that is all. 1. Has the drive *ever* worked. 2. Did you install any drivers for the CDROM drive? 3. Try removing the drivers for *all* cdrom drives listed there and rebooting. This allows windows to sort out how to talk to the drives to put it in plain english. -- (setq (chuck nil) car(chuck) ) chuckcar |
