.... then forgot the Password.
Can I use Safe Mode to make a new Administrator Account without knowing the password, then use the new account to delete the old account? Seems like this is too simple and would violate the security policy. Without the password, I think I have to reinstall XP. Can I block the establishment of User Accounts so this does not happen again? Jeff Strickland |

(Home/Pro) if it is home there is an Administrator account set up already, use F8 at boot time and select Safe Mode, Control Panel/User accounts, Change Password on the account that has a problem. if it is Pro and the administrator account has been set and that's the one you are having trouble with you can reset it with this tool: Offline NT Password & Registry Editor http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ as for it not happening again, give the Kids a limited account and set a password on any administrator accounts Hope that helps JD JD |

Start -> Run -> type "gpedit.msc" -> go to administrative templates -> control panel -> Prohibit access to the control panel -> Hide Specified Control Panel Applets -> type in the name(s) of the applets you want to disable. Good luck JD JD |

My neighbor bought a new machine and was gonna give the old one away, but elected to set it up in another room of her house instead. Nobody, but NOBODY gets close enough to the new machine to sneeze H1N1 germs on it, but the old machine is open season for her son and his squeeze(es). Anyhow, I can't think of any good reason why he would need to secure his porn, so disabling the User Accounts sounds like fun. I could disable the Control Panel, but then she'd have to call me for stuff that I'm trying to teach her to do by herself. Hiding the Control Panel has its attractions, but at this point it's a step backward. I'll try turning the User accounts off and see how that goes. Jeff Strickland |
