OSux Permission Screwups

How on earth can this sort of error occur? I assume Mac users don't go
around changing permissions on system files willy-nilly. So how do system
files get wrong permissions?

Looks like different pieces of Apple's software disagree on what the "right"
permissions should be. If you look at the linked knowledge base articles, a
lot of the messages are "should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--". In
other words, a symlink to a file/directory is not being treated the same as
a file/directory. This is just stupid.
