hi everyone... i'm running XP, SP3, auto-updates on, Spybot S & D, windows
defender, AdAware Anniversary edition, Avast! anti-virus, and a few registry
cleaners & optimizers on top of it all... defender plays nicely with the
other stuff, but it seems to scan whenever it feels like it, and it ignores
the 2 AM scheduled scan i have set it for... when it scans, it slows things
down, and takes up some RAM, so i'd rather have it scan when i'm not using
the comp, hence the 2 am scan occurrence...

i don't power down completely, only 'standby'; will setting up a 'scheduled
task' work with Defender, to wake up the comp each morning, run the scan,
then go on standby again? unless i did something wrong, it doesn't seem to,
and Defender's own 'scheduled scan' parameters don't seem to work either...

what am i doing wrong? i have half a mind to lose Defender completely,
because it's never found 'malware', but my other programs can usually find
something when i run them...

Since you state that you are running a 32-bit version of Windows and
this forum is for 64-bit versions you might start in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support for assistance with XP SP3.
