While looking through the list of available locales in locale.gen(5), I came
across this:

mi_NZ ISO-8859-13

"mi" is Māori, while ISO-8859-13, also known as the "Latin-7" or "Baltic
Rim" character set, is as described here
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_8859-13>. Yes, it has the vowels with
macrons on top. But it also has other random stuff like characters with
strokes and rings, háček, ogonek, and who knows what else.

Do yourself a favour, stick with Unicode.
