suggestions for software

I've recovered a bunch of files from a hdd. I need some suggestions for
software to assist in
repairing some of the stuff'. Whats the best program to Batch process
dirs with images and if necessary repair those that are corrupted? Same
goes for word/excel files. I know most of the files will have lost data,
im only looking to check what was on the hdd. Also to search for regular
expressions in text/html, Whats a good program? I have 1000's of files
so the ability to process subdirs is a necessity. Thanks. xp/linux
