I have the same problem and when I went to support at microsoft they had me
transfer all my files and settings to another profile. a different desktop.
It worked for the updates but everything else was screwed up and the profile
was corrupted so I ended up after two days of work surrendering. If you have
a second desktop or profile on your computer try assigning administrative
priveleges to that and see if you can't do an end around and download updates
from another desktop. I have a guest profile on my computer.
