plugin raid controller issue

I just added two sata disks to my silicon PCI based raid controller
and find that the box will no longer boot.....if I disable the sata
disks by disconnecting the sata cables it boots fine again off the ide
channel (CF card)....cant cdrom boot either....tried bios settings, no
joy (try other boot device - no, also yes just in case) .....I must be
missing something....

FIC P3 motherbaord....its a DSE sata/usb2/firewire combo card....
