I lived in an area that had three channels, and on Sundays you watched
church services until late in the afternoon, Sundays T.V wasn't
viewable till late afternoon.
The boldest thing I had seen one of the stations do, was televise
Voyager passing Saturn in real time (forget the time lag) on a Sunday
and all day - I caught the start of it by accident as it was a Sunday
but watched the whole broadcast which lasted most of the day.
Years (?)later, one day I found a new channel (Cable or free I
forget) called MTV, Oh, hell I was hooked, it was the only station we
would watch, and some of the best music videos came out at that time.
We woke up to it and turn MTV off when going to bed. From Mexican
Radio (the first MTV video) to Mc Hammer's "You Can't Touch" which I
consider the first hip hop, "Funky Cold Medina" was good but the end
for me - MTV went hip hop / or Crap (silent C) at that point and I
haven't watched it since.
I loved MTV when it started, but seriously I haven't watch MTV for
close to 20 years and it's a channel on my cable.
I miss the old MTV very much, it was far from being stupid, took about
10 years to reach that point.
Had to stick up for MTV, in a way it reminds me of Queens "Radio Gaga"
meaning, just a T.V instead of a radio.
