Howdy,

We use SpamBayes on all our systems and it works like a
charm...

http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/download.html

It is free, open source, and you (rather than the software)
decides what you want to read.

You can do that two different ways:

You can put a pile of spam in a folder, and a pile of good
messages in another and tell SpamBayes to assess those two
folders.

Or, you can just take each message as it comes in and tell
the software whether you consider it "good" or "spam."

Either way, the software very quickly "learns" the criteria
you are applying.

I've used it for years and have never had a "false
positive", that is, never has it characterized as spam a
message I wanted to keep.

All the best,

Spambayes does not work with Outlook Express.

Howdy,

Yes, it does...

It takes a moment to set up, but it will work just fine.

You might want to check:

Spambayes can be configured to run as a local proxy (rather than rely
on an Outlook add-on). That means any POP e-mail client can access it.

Note that SpamBayes relies only on a Bayes filter to identify spam. If
you don't have much e-mail traffic or it comes in widely separated
spurts, this guessing scheme won't work well as you don't have enough
history of weighted words to use against later e-mails.

I based my claim on their page at
http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/windows.html

<quote>
General Information

The Outlook addin is an application of the SpamBayes project. To our
knowledge, the current version of the plug-in should work with Windows
98 and above and Outlook 2000 or above. You may be able to get the
plug-in to work with Windows 95 if you install the most recent version
of Internet Explorer possible, but we are not certain about this. It
does not work with Outlook Express
</quote>

The workaround in the FAQ seems a bit complicated compared to the ease
of use with Outlook.

Hi again,

Yes, as I have said, using SpamBayes with Outlook is easier
than using it with Outlook Express. But, it will work with
either.

Also, the last line of your quote (above) "It does not work
with Outlook Express" refers not to SpamBayes itself, but to
the Plug-In that is designed for specifically for Outlook.

All the best,
